Weekly Travel Theme: Height

This week, over at her blog ‘Where’s my Backpack?’, Ailsa is challenging us to find photos on the theme of ‘height’.

Well, I don’t do height…not really. I have absolutely no head for heights. Many years ago, before I became completely unable to do the high stuff, I crawled across the top of the Pont du Gard, 200 feet above the river Rhone, no railings…whilst a Frenchwoman was nonchalently strolling across in high heels, baby on her back. Did I feel a wuss? Not really, I was concentrating too hard on remaining where I was.

Anyway, this brings us to my image for this challenge, one it took me a while to find as it was in my archive of slides, but got there in the end. It was taken in Italy back in 1991. I have always remembered this shot, because it is something I could never ever do……just look down and see the tiny cars on the road below the scaffolding, this guy was walking about on those planks, cool as a cucumber, ready to do some work on the cuppola of Florence’s Duomo. That’s how high he was. I was the tourist safely behind a wall at the top of the Duomo, taking this photo. Aaaargh…my knees go weak just looking at it.

I think this one image says ‘height’ in spades…
